Marxist economics can help us to understand the inherent contradictions of the capitalist system.

Why are the capitalists always whinging?
What is a working class solution to the economic crisis?

Sunday Marxism - a lively series of discussions about socialist theory held on the first Sunday of the month
This Sunday - Marxism and the State

What is the state? Can it be reformed?
Can the polices needed to save the planet be implemented through parliament?

We will be looking at these fundamental questions through a screening of 'A Very British Coup' an account of what happens when a Socialist is elected PM of Britain.
While fictional this story recalls actual events in history.

Celebrate May Day

"Salt of the Earth"

Tuesday 1 May

6:30 for 7:00pm start

Resistance Centre 472 Hunter St Newcastle

Entry by Donation

Enquiries- 0409 878485

Salt of the Earth is based on based on the 1951 strike against the Empire Zinc Company in the US by Mexican-American workers. When the workers are ordered to dismantle their picket line in support of pay equality and
dignity their wives and partners step forward to take charge of the strike.

This little known classic was made during the height of the cold war and was banned by Hollywood and the US government. It is just as relevant today when the right to strike, and the right to secure work, are under
threat from both Labor and Liberals. It also has inspiring lessons in the struggle for gender equality and freedom of expression.

Cheap tasty vegetarian meal from 6.30 pm, film followed by a toast to May Day.
